第七章 錯誤：錯誤 名家失手 例子和糾正 冗長錯誤

  以下例句中，括號里的單詞或詞組是多餘的，應被刪除。

  例1　Fill the glass (full).（把玻璃杯灌滿。）

  例2　They appeared to be talking (together) on private affairs.

  （看來他們在聊私事。）

  

  例3　I saw the boy and his sister (both) in the garden.

  （我看到男孩和他妹妹在花園。）

  例4　He went into the country last week and returned (back) yesterday.

  （他上周去鄉下，昨天回來了。）

  例5　The subject (matter) of his discourse was excellent.

  （他的演講主題棒極了。）

  例6　You need not wonder that the (subject) matter of his discourse was excellent? it was taken from the Bible.

  （他的演講主題非常棒，你無須為此感到驚訝，因為這個主題來自《聖經》。）

  例7　They followed (after) him, but could not overtake him.

  （他們跟隨他的腳步，但卻無法超越他。）

  例8　The same sentiments may be found throughout (the whole of) the book.

  例9　I was very ill everyday (of my life) last week.

  例10　That was the (sum and) substance of his discourse.

  例43　Moreover, (also) we wish to say he was in error.

  例45　Two men went into the wood (in order) to cut (down) trees.

  其他冗長的例子可以以此類推。在新聞寫作中，很多地方經常出現一些從意義上來說沒有必要存在的，或者不需要被用來解釋文章的單詞還有詞組。
