五、wh-疑問詞或wh-ever從句小結

  （一）wh-疑問詞意思是「所……的事/物」，相當於the thing（s）that…或those which…wh-ever 的意思相當於anything（或anyone）that/who…可以用於以下情況：

  1.引導主語從句。如：

  What she saw frightened her.她看到的事情嚇了她一跳。

  When they』ll come hasn’t been made public.他們什麼時候來還沒有宣布。

  Whoever did this job must be rewarded.

  無論是誰幹了這件事都一定要得到報酬。

  Whenever you act like that is against the law.

  無論什麼時候你那麼做都是違法的。

  2.引導表語從句。如：

  Times are not what they used to be.時代不同了。

  That was where I once lived twenty years ago.

  那就是二十年前我曾經生活過的地方。

  My question is whenever you lost it.我的問題是你究竟什麼時候丟了它。

  3.引導賓語從句，包括介詞賓語。如：

  She was not happy at what he had said.她對他說的話不高興。

  Do you know where I can find her？你知道什麼地方我能找到她嗎？

  You can give this letter to whoever is at the reception desk.

  你可以把這封信交給在接待處的任何一個人。

  （二）用作插入語，指代後面的成分。這和非限定性定語從句正好相反，非限定性定語從句指代的是前面的成分。如：

  Then I discovered，what was news to me，that his wife was Mary’s niece.

  後來我發現，他妻子原來是瑪麗的侄女，這對我是個新聞。

  He went to the meeting and，what was worse，insisted on speaking.

  他去參加了會議，而且更糟糕的是，他堅持要發言。

  （三）引導讓步狀語從句，等於「不管什麼……」。注意狀語從句的語序。如：

  Do what she would，she could not invent a reason for not going.

  不管她會做什麼，她都編不出不去的理由。狀語從句把實義動詞放在句首，句子倒裝。═No matter what she would do，…

  Say what he will，in his heart he knows that he is wrong.

  不管他怎麼說，內心裡他知道自己錯了。═No matter what he will say，…
